The aim of the “Deemools” contemporary witness portal of the Öewersauer Nature Park is to compile a treasure trove of memories with stories from contemporary witnesses about everyday experiences in Luxembourg’s history. A wide range of different topics are covered: the Second World War, the dam in Esch-sur-Sûre, Dutch immigration in the 1950s, crafts, traditions and customs. The recorded conversations with older people who are personally affected by the subject matter are considered intangible cultural heritage: the collective memory of the region (oral history). “Deemools” aims to valorise past experiences, preserve them for future generations and make them available to the public.
After a first regional part in 2022-2023 (partners: ORT Éislek, LEADER Éislek, Department of Tourism of the Ministry of the Economy), the project will continue at national level in 2024-2028 with the support of the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte and in partnership with GERO – Kompetenzzenter fir den Alter, the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) and the Centre national de l’audiovisuel.
