During the battles, which lasted from 27 December 1944 to 9 January 1945, the German soldiers initially entrenched themselves in the houses of the village of Nothum and then they were followed by the American troops. The inhabitants in particular suffered from this situation. The memorial trail traces the fate of the soldiers and the population.

The themes covered throughout the trail are:

• Tragedy at the crossroad
• Command Post in the „Bats“ House
• Surviving in the ruins
• The battle for Nothum

The memorial to the victims of the war (at the church) is also part of the itinerary.
