In accordance with the Nature Park Act, the Nature Park is devoted to preserving its natural history and cultural heritage. The Nature Park is a conservation area for rare and endangered flora and fauna. In addition, the Upper Sûre Reservoir, the heart of the Nature Park, continues to assume greater significance as part of the national water supply. In this sense, the Nature Park wishes to
- position itself as a centre of excellence for the natural environment and the countryside in the regions (e.g. establish the biological station as a specialist coordinating point within the region, provide advice to citizens, promote the sustainable use of land in collaboration with agricultural and forestry interests and the communes, perform cartographic and cadastral planning and monitoring, implement wildlife and natural habitat protection programmes and campaigns and develop overall management concepts).
