Since 1999 the aim of the Upper Sûre Nature Park in the northwest of Luxembourg – the country's water region – has been to combine work and recreation in an ecologically useful way. Situated in the ancient hilly uplands of the Ardennes, the park is marked by deep valleys, wet meadows, steep forested slopes and a high farmland plateau. At the centre of the park is a reservoir that supplies around 70 % of Luxembourg households with drinking water.

Tourism, culture, environmental protection and economic as well as social development are all promoted and closely integrated. The success of the concept was confirmed in 2010 when the park was awarded the EDEN prize.
